Map art is a form of art created using by utilizing how Minecraft's map work. Maps use a 128x128 area in Minecraft's world to display an image on map item from a top-down prespective. By placing blocks in this area, like pixels in an image, players are able to create low resolution images on the map item. They can then be placed in item frames for display like regular images. Minecraft uses a custom color palette for each block on the map. There are 61 colors for flat or 2D maparts, and 201 colors for valley or 3D maparts. Each block is affected by blocks placed above or below it from north to south allowing for more colors in valleyed or 3D maparts. This can be helpful for very detailed images where as 2D maps are good for cartoons, anime, and memes often times.

When making mapart it is recommend that you use MapartCraft
