Is Novylen really the oldest still-running Minecraft server? Do you have proof?

It depends on your definition of "server" and the criteria you are using to determine which is the oldest. We are "one of the oldest known Minecraft servers". The server went online the day of the release of Minecraft Multiplayer Wed Aug 04 10:12:39 PDT 2010, hosting rbos' infdev single-player world - and has not reset its' map since [1][2][3]. We also host a creative world with builds copied over from rbos' old Minecraft Classic server. The server has had limited downtime, mainly for server maintenance and when updating to a new patch.

What is the server's IP? Why isn't the ip working? I can't log in.

minecraft.novylen.net or mc.novylen.net Make sure there isn't a trailing space at the end of the ip, especially if you have copy pasted it.

How do I get rank in Discord?

/discord link (in the ingame SMP chat) to link your Minecraft and Discord accounts.

Can I join the server using a cracked client/hacked client/Bedrock edition?  

To join the server you will need a premium Minecraft Java Edition account.

What client mods are allowed? Can I log in with VR or from my phone?

Fullbright, minimaps, texture packs and schematics are fine, as long as there are no x-ray mining or auto-build functions. All blocks must be placed in a vanilla manner. Feel free to ask about any specific mod if you are unsure. Non-desktop logins are not supported but are allowed.

Why are there no voice channels on the Discord?

We believe that if we host voice channels on Discord, it is our responsibility to make sure they aren't used for malicious purposes. This means we would have to moderate them, which we don't want to do.

What version of Minecraft is the server running?

The server is usually running the latest version, with the exception of the weeks after a major patch. Players can also join on many older versions with ViaVersion.

What should I do if I am falling into the void when I first log in?

Please join the server on a Minecraft version on or above 1.19.0 to resolve this issue. Spawn is currently below 0.

Why am I timing out on the server?

Please verify that the issue is specific to the Novylen server and then make a post in the #bans-and-complaints discord channel for assistance. Also try resetting your router. Sometimes certain areas will have trouble connecting to our ISP.

Where can I see old terrain?

Visit the "Very Old Places" board at /spawn by the waterladder and stargate. Infdev blocks are located around /dial 1spawn.

I need help from a Moderator, but none are online. What should I do?

On the rare occasion no staff are online, you can use the following command in game to open a ticket: /ticket create <msg>. A moderator will see your message the next time they log on. Use this for region requests, to report griefing, harrassment, cheating, etc.

How do I set a home?

/home set <homename> You can set up to 5 homes.

Can I lock my chests?

Chests and furnaces are automatically locked on placement with lwc. You can also lock doors, hoppers and other inventory blocks. Use /lwc for a list of commands.

How do I protect my builds?

We use worldguard regions to protect builds from griefers. Once you have a build underway, at the location type /ticket create <all the details needed for its completion> Make sure you explain what your ticket is for, unexplained /tickets will simply be deleted. You can add members and some region flags by typing /rg info and clicking in chat.

What is a Stargate? How do I use it?

Stargates are the obsidian rings you will see standing at /spawn and other places. Hit the lever and it will prompt you to type /dial <gatename> Then step through! You can build your own stargates by simply constructing the obsidian parts, adding the lever and turning it on. It will prompt you to type /nxcomplete <gatename> and charge a 100p creation fee. This fee will be returned if you choose to delete the stargate with /nxremove. There are lists of interesting destinations to visit at /spawn.

Why am I able to fly? What is Energy? What is Runecraft?

Players are able to fly when they are near an "Advanced Flight Field", which is a magical structure from the Runecraft plugin. Runecraft uses Energy to create many different magical effects and tools. Instructions for creating runes can be found at /dial runecraft, or in #runecraft -check the pins.

What is pence?

Pence is the server's currency. Players can check their balance with /bal. Pence is earned by trading with other players with /pay (name) #, creating a ChestShop (tutorial at /dial mall1), or selling cobbled deepslate or netherack to the admin shop at /spawn (geode) or /dial mall2.

What benefits do donators receive?

Donators receive a blue name, access to the /nxgo command which warps to any stargate, priority access to the SMP and Creative server when there is a queue, and access to the #donators discord channel. They also have limited worldedit access in Creative and access to the "stonetools" and "moretorches" /kit's. See /buy ingame to donate.

Where did my animals go? I had 60 sheep!

We have mob limiters in place on a per chunk basis. Nametags and spacing will help preserve your creatures.

How large is the world? Will the world border be expanded? Why are there restricted areas on the map?

The world is 40k x 40k. There are currently no plans to expand the world border. The restricted areas allow for the generation of new terrain after updates without having to regenerate chunks that players have built on.

You are most likely looking for Ironside. Use a stargate to /dial Amzos.
